The company

Marketing teams spend $1.5 trillion a year on various channels and programs. And yet most of those capital allocation decisions are guided by gut feel, broken attribution, and backward-looking metrics.

Paramark helps them optimize spend across all their channels and programs. There are proven scientific ways to do this, but they are poorly understood and practiced by only a tiny fraction of teams. Companies waste millions on campaigns that don’t work, while failing to invest in critical long-term initiatives simply because they’re harder to measure. Most are sorely lacking in both measurement and experimentation capability.

We’re fixing this by creating a system of action that teams use to understand, to forecast the impact of their investments, and to experiment with new ideas. The opportunity is huge: 100k+ mid-market businesses worldwide, spending $1.5T on marketing annually, with a large chunk of that going to waste. Our target customer spends between $10M and $100M on Marketing annually.

We founded the company in 2023 and have strong traction. Our customers include both consumer and business brands like Square, Chime, Ramp, Rippling, Speak, Toast, and many more.

We work 3-5 days a week from our office in San Francisco. We truly believe the best results come from in-person collaboration, but we also want to strike the right balance and give everyone the flexibility they need to enjoy life outside of the office. Our existing team respects the need to not have work be your life, but understands the importance of scaling a new business in a collaborative environment.

We’ve raised $8M from Greylock and several CXO-level advisors and angels from companies like Open AI, Dropbox, Salesforce, Asana, and P&G.

The opportunity
Your team

  • You’ll be on a small data science team (alongside one other person) working with our seven person software engineering team and our five person solutions engineering team.
  • We believe that the best teams are driven from the bottom up. We’re excited for how you will influence us.

Your role

  • Data science
    • You will own a share of the most ambiguous analyses that we do for our customers.
    • While you may not have it when you join, you will develop expert-level knowledge with marketing mix modeling and causal inference analysis.
    • You will influence the quality bar for data science at Paramark. This will involve adapting best practices in data science to the Marketing domain, with its requirements and constraints. This runs the gamut from data selection, to model selection, to data visualization, and more.
    • You will contribute to roadmap discussions and suggest ways to improve both the quality and automation of our data science workflows. You will inform your point of view with what you learn about our customers’ needs.
    • You will coach our solutions engineers as they perform customer data analysis and define clear standards they can follow.
    • You will play a major role in hiring data scientists and scaling the function as we grow.

  • Helping customers
    • While you may not have it on day one, you will build strong domain knowledge around Marketing over time.
    • You’ll set an example for customer obsession, understanding that we can’t find the right thing to do without a deep knowledge of the customer and their needs.
    • You’ll meet with our customers as needed to earn trust by answering their questions about our methodology and explaining the results of our analyses.

  • Building software
    • You will contribute code to our internal-facing admin application, where we operate our ML workflows.
    • You will proactively add automation to optimize our ML workflows, and collaborate with our software engineers to do this.
    • You will keep software quality high as required for an internal app that is critical to the team’s work.

You

Your experience and skills

  • Data scientist with at least 5 years of experience.
  • Technical experience across different modelling techniques in different domains, with a strong understanding of the tradeoffs.
  • Strong communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Have developed deep knowledge about the customers whom you have served.
  • Able to identify and execute on opportunities to automate data science workflows.
  • Capable coder and able to deliver high quality software.
  • Prioritizing in situations of high complexity and ambiguity.
  • Mentoring other data scientists and helping them grow.

Your interests

  • Creating happy customers. Your choices will be guided by a passion to make our customers happy.
  • Creating a warm and welcoming company culture. Building a great product is only the beginning for us. We’re equally passionate about building a company that we still want to work at 10 years from now, and you will play a huge role in making this happen.
  • Educating your peers and customers on data science in terms they can understand.

Benefits and culture

  • We’re not 22 any more. We have kids, family lives, and health problems to manage. We don’t think early stage startup life requires 18 hour days, or even 12 hour days. We’re intent on building a different kind of culture, one that is truly sustainable. That means reasonable working hours (we’re out of the office before 6), taking a break when we need it, and checking in with each other. Our Purpose, Mission, and Values guide us.
  • Simple Time off policy : all federal holidays plus 4 weeks of PTO per year. Health comes first, and everyone needs to take time off to recharge and rejuvenate.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance provided with 100% of employee premiums / 50% of family premiums covered.

Compensation
The base pay range for this role is $166,000 – $237,000 per year.
